Wilbur Addison Smith (1933–2021) was a world-renowned adventure novelist born in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) and closely associated with Southern Africa. He became one of the most successful authors of historical and adventure fiction, with his books selling over 140 million copies worldwide and being translated into more than 30 languages.

Smith was known for writing fast-paced stories set in Africa, often combining history, exploration, warfare, family dynasties, and treasure hunting. His novels are famous for vivid descriptions of the African landscape, strong characters, and dramatic plots filled with danger and discovery.
